I wish they would change the rules for the Hold. It could be a valuable stat to show effectiveness, but if you pitch to 4 batters and 2 reach base you have had a bad game (if you didn’t finish an inning).

Change Hold to complete an inning without allowing an earned run, not giving up the lead and not allowing more than 1 inherited runner to score. That is a good counting stat for a reliever.
(You could say not allowing an inherited runner that was on first to score also)

Good to win tonight and they really need to put up a string of wins to really get back from the dismal June dive.

Arrieta did not have a good start tonight (5 runs, 9 hits, 2 walks, 2 homers) but he gets a win. Bullpen gives them 3 scoreless if not pretty innings. Mets out hit Phillies tonight but only the runs win a game. Phillies now have scored 20 runs in the first two games in this series and have back to back four home run games.

Let's beat them again tomorrow.

I think they went with all fastballs because it was Cano who is having a lot of struggles at the plate. Better to make him earn it to get on base, rather than get a lead off walk by laying off the splitter.

Of course, Arrieta didn't really deserve a win, either...

Have you seen the "goose egg" stat invented by Nate Silver? It's an interesting way to evaluate relief pitching. In this game both Morgan and Neris would have earned a goose egg; Nicasio would not (he could have if he had finished the eighth without giving up a run). It's not perfect, but it is simple, and it also deals with cheap saves.
