The thing is, you can't "make" a player something he's not. It's not unreasonable to experiment - to try to find out if a Scott Kingery can be a "super utility player." But you have to have a reasonable expectation that your experiment - like any experiment - may return a "null hypothesis" - e.g., it might not work. You have to be prepared to recognize and accept that it doesn't work.
You can try to pound a square peg into a round hole, and it might just fit. But if if doesn't fit, continuing to hammer on it (especially if you're pounding with your forehead!) is a really bad idea.
The Phillies have two second basemen. One is 29, and will be a FA after the 2020 season. The other is 25, is signed (with options) through 2026, and is arguably a better player now. They don't have a starting third baseman. This doesn't seem to me to be an insoluble situation.
