Yeah, the idea that Turner would ease the loss of Hoskins always seemed a stretch, but he's still been a legit 25 HR guy (21 last year but he only played 121 games) and isn't this year. It's possible that this is all a feature not a bug, i.e. Turner and Casty and Marsh and Bohm are all trading some power for OBP, and Turner especially was challenged to focus on that (and even more so now that he's permanent lead-off hitter). But for all the talk of adding an OF this deadline that lack of right-handed pop since Hoskins left (including in the playoffs when he was still on the roster but hurt) and JT began to tail of is still the glaring hole, and more so when one of your two lefty sluggers is also out/diminished. Of course they scored 10 runs the night before with doubles and RISP.
I reckon the Abel move is done now, just gotta grind through it like any 5th starter or young pitcher getting caught up to by the league until Nola comes back. It was probably a mistake inasmuch as Walker hasn't really helped the bullpen that much either. Though the fan base would just be more angry if it was Walker losing these games as a starter. They were also trying to be nice to Walker by saying, we're gonna stop moving you back and forth, knowing that between Nola and Painter he probably wouldn't go back again after the All-Star break.
