Only guy without a hit is the guy that got a huge break today (Dahl). Odd. Just 1 game.

I agree, it would be nice to see Marchan get a shot at 5 hits.

Phillies are now +103 in run differential.

1st in the NL in runs scored, 2nd in runs allowed (Dodgers).

The wayyyy too soon over reactive thought from this game. Will Stubbs be the guy to go when JT comes back

He is so popular and with his experience of the pitching staff, they could make him a bullpen coach until needed again.

I think Stubbs is here through the end of the year. I do like what I’ve seen from Marchán though, even if the majority of his hits today were bloopers. His defense so far has been very impressive.

Stubbs has an option and a split contract (meaning he gets paid more if optioned than he normally would) but that wouldn't help the "coach" idea to have him in LV, and Marchan also wouldn't get much playing time even if JT plays less. Still the easier call to just send Marchan down and then bring him back in September and/or for the playoffs (they might prefer to just have him play every day in LV and use the spot on an OF or IF) but it could certainly be a conversation if he keeps it up. For now this this goes in the same category as Clemens and Sosa though, but they should let him play more, and not be locked into that pitcher/catcher partnership pattern which not only doesn't let him get to know the other pitchers but eliminates batting platoon options (at least for Stubbs).

Marchan is almost certainly going down when JT is healthy. No strike against him but we know he is not the SSS offensive player so far. He also has used his option already. He could actually be the backup next year with the team using Stubbs' option. I would not be shocked if Marchan is the 14th hitter in September also if they are trying to rest JT for the postseason more.

Too small a sample size to ask that question--he'd have to post a 1000+ OPS over 100 ABs or so to start asking that! I know you were mostly kidding, but he might hit well enough to be a bench bat with no defensive value outside of catching...maybe with the expanded roster as mentioned above.

There is enough AAA to suggest that Marchan could be a 650-700 OPS player. Probably better than Stubbs but not much better. 831 OPS in AAA last year but we also know that AAA is easier than in the past.

Assume after a month that Stubbs and Marchan's offense will be fairly close. Just hope both of them are in that 650 ish OPS range.

Marchan also had a great winter league last year IIRC with a 982 OPS (at 4.5 years younger than league average) and in discussion for Venezuelan league MVP.. When I saw him at LV in 2023 he was the best hitter on the team from an "eye-test" analysis. He might just have improved enough over the last couple of years to be a 700 OPS catcher, and that's an MLB starter...
