Heck we don't need to look at what is going across MLB, we already have the last four years of Phillies free agent and trade acquisitions! Robertson, Hunter (who actually had his moments), Workman, Hembree, Hale, Phelps, Kintzler, Bradley (who was about as bad as Familia at this time last year but eventually okay) Kennedy. If the Phillies were to go out and trade for Bednar (or heh, a resurgent David Robertson) it would come at a price and still be hard to expect great results.
Their strategy of amassing cheap live arms and mid-priced vets on one-year deals is not a bad one; it just still hasn't provided enough quantity or quality, in terms of both health and performance.
But they don't ask how, just how many. They won this series, and they're 10-2 in June. Only three of those 10 wins required a save. They'll keep patching it together and they will add someone at the deadline but it's still not the thing that will make or break this team's contention.
