Phillies lose 8-7. First loss since they lost to the Mets, 8-7, when Hoskins home run was overturned on review.
Phillies bullpen blew a lead three times: 9th inning, 11th inning, and 12th inning. I doubt that happens often in MLB. Incredibly, they seemed to refuse to win.
This loss comes off the five game win streak and of course, they were going to lose sometime. Still, this is a game they should have won and they had three great shots to do it. Every win counts and when the season winds down, games like this might be the difference between going home in October or playing on into the post season.
For me, the two out walk in the ninth was the turning point in the game. Neris went to breaking balls trying to get the K but ended up with the last two taken for balls and the walk. Why didn't he throw the fast ball to that batter. He did throw one to Sandoval and it tied the game.
I also hate seeing the double switch take a chuck of the offense out of the game.
We will see if the Phillies can recover and win tomorrow. Regardless, they can't get this one back, so we have to move on. Really a shame to not record this win tonight. They should have had it and they they had a second chance and blew that and then a 3 run lead and they blew that. A dismal night for the Phillies.
