Hernandez has been very good. Now we have Franco in a slump. With this lineup though you don’t notice when people are going through a slump as much though. Very beneficial for the team and the player in my opinion.

Really happy to see Eickhoff pitching well. When Pivetta comes back, who goes to the bullpen, Pivetta or Velasquez?

I think VV's "stuff' is more bullpen suited then that of Pivetta, but not sure it makes much difference.

Segura's in a little post-injury slump, that's also how Hernandez passed him.

Seems like there's no rush on Pivetta. But if they were to give him VV's spot in the rotation I think VV would go to Allentown not the pen. This is what having a young, deep rotation is all about really. Last year they could afford pitch through it because the front office wasn't really expecting a winner.

I would only do the Pivetta to the bullpen thing if it looks like a severe need. So far, it's not, as much as we complain (and this next stretch will test it again).

Not much chatter on here. The afternoon game must have thrown members off like it appears to have done with the bot.

Eickhoff must really be mowing them down. I am only following the game on gameday, so I can't assess his pitches. Through 5 he's only given up one hit, had 4 Ks and a modest 65 pitches.

I watched most of this game on my iPad and looked for the game day thread on my phone early on and didn't see a GDT.

An outstanding start from Eickhoff with a couple big hits by the Phillies in the fifth to put up the 4 spot. A strong ninth inning from Seranthony and we have a great win to take the series in St. Louis after the miserable start to the series on Monday night.

Day off and then on to Kansas City.

I'm not sure I would say I expect a win in a game where Segura, Harper, Hoskins, Realmuto, and Franco all go hitless, but here we see it happen. Hernandez with 3 hits goes over .300 and Hoskins goes hitless and drops to .295. Gosselin gets the pinch hit and is now 4 for 8 pinch hitting. Might be making a case to stay on the bench when Kingery returns, but I know they like Rodriguez as well.

maybe? I think at this point Eickhoff is not only back, but a better pitcher than he was a couple years ago.
That slider/cutter gives hitters something to think about, and keep them from keying FB/curve.
His location was a bit off, but he made the big pitches when it counted, again and again.

Perfect example why velocity is overrated, now I don't think they should be drafting Eastman or trading for anymore Eshelman, types, not because they lack velocity but because they don't have the great secondary pitches you need. Even Nola isn't the same when he doesn't have both the curve and change working in the same game.

SD is only throwing 97 these days and is starting to learn to use his secondary pitches.
Neris may throw 95 but he lives and dies with his splitter.
Morgan became a reliable RP when he developed a change to go with his slider.

Phillies now 3 games up (Braves still play tonight), 7-3 in last 10, and the 21-15 record matches their run differential XW-L (which is the third-best in the NL - behind the other division leaders but ahead of the Brewers and Cards).
