Clearly Thomson and Cotham are not automatically beholden to pitch counts, inning or third-time-through-the order, which is probably not a bad thing. Also they manage very differently in May than in October.
It's just a little surprising they didn't want Turnbull to pitch three innings, since they want to keep him stretched out supposedly. Now the question is, does he sit for another four days or is he available out of the pen on what would have been his throw day as a starter? The way things are going they probably won't need him in any case.
