Looking at walk rates in the low minors, I think the organization recognizes they have too many free swingers, but it'll take time to fix this - Castellanos has made great progress, but Turner is swinging at too many balls (though there is an umpire problem, but part of that is you don't get the breaks disciplined hitters get, if Schmidt didn't swing, umpires often assumed it was a ball).
Stott and Bohm are trying to extend ABs but it takes time to break young hitters of bad habits.
Sosa may be unfixable.
Marsh has shown better discipline this season
But this team doesn't have players putting up .350+ OPB, which is why so many HRs are solo.
Marsh .412 (BB 12.3%)
Castellanos .359 (7.7%)
Bohm .345 (7.9%)
Sosa .338 (2.5%)
Stott .327 (4.1%)
Turner .301 (5.2%)
Realmoto .299 (3.4%)
Schwarber .295 (13.0%)
Cave .286 (8.6%)
Harper replaces Cave, which helps, but they really have to get more disciplined and stop chasing bad pitches.
