We used to call it reliever roulette when relievers were a lot less talented/capable (and almost always worse than a starter) and teams knew a lot less about how to run a pitching staff though.

One of the other things they said about Turnbull was that he would never enter a game (at least not early in this transition) without a little notice, which is probably why Kerkering got the first call. I still might have stuck with him for two innings but you can't argue with the result. And when our 10th inning guy loses the game because Alvarado or Hoffman weren't available, well, that's still a false construct (I.e we might have lost the game in Turnbull's second inning).

Literally tough luck. Ranger would have gloved that sucker.

Offense kept them from losing this game after four innings but also failed to win it in the 10th. You can definitely wonder why several other relievers - not just Turnbull - couldn't go a little longer to give Thomson more options but very few managers ever save arms for extras.

A tough game to lose after blowing the 3 run lead and coming back from 3 runs down to tie the game at 6-6. It would have been great to win this one, but it is a series win in Miami and now on to New York.

I would have pitched Turnbull 2 or 3 innings, but of course, there is no guarantee that he doesn't give up runs in his 2nd or 3rd inning of work. I also would have let Sosa bat in the top of the tenth. Again, he probably doesn't come through either.

Great game for Stott, 2 for 2 with 3 walks. Big home run for Castellanos to give the Phillies the early initial 3 run lead. Wheeler not sharp today. Bullpen did pretty well until Soto in the tenth.

The only result that matters is the last one, and I didn't much like it.

Well, true. Though I think the bigger second-guess is why Wheeler got to pitch the fourth and turn a 4-3 game into a 6-3 game.

Wasting five perfect innings of relief hurts but once you get to the 10th it's a crapshoot and Soto came closer to doing his job (walking Bell worked, he generated contact that would have been an out most times) than the offense did. Can't really blame Nick after the game he already had; going with Clemens over Sosa also easy to second-guess (but by the book).

Another road series win, still not so bad. The next four will be interesting.
