The Phillies couldn't have possibly thought Harrison would be any better than he was last year. They wanted a vet. He just isn't good enough to merit a platoon advantage start. Or many starts at all. But, not clear that Guthrie or Clemens (who is not RH but does play all the same positions Harrison does) would be any better, never mind Kingery.

When Harrison was signed, Hoskins was the first baseman, Bohm the third baseman, and Sosa the backup infielder. I didn’t see a spot for Harrison, who is clearly worse than those guys. Now, he’s essentially Hoskins’ replacement. There’s got to be someone better for that role.

Harrison is a placeholder, so is Guthrie.
Kingery looks cooked, but Ortiz is off to a good start but they'll want him to have 200-300 PA before assuming he's turned the corner.
Muzzioti is LH, Pache is injured.

Most of the RH options are at Reading, De La Cruz, Wilson and Rojas. Radcliff is injured.

So Harrison is probably the best they can do before the Allstar break, and who are you going to trade for?

I thought Harrison was going to play more OF or (if he hit) DH when Hall couldn't play against LHP. (Or Harrison could have played RF and Castellanos could have DH'ed). There was also all that talk of Sosa playing CF (and no reason he couldn't have played RF too). But none of it has really worked out that way.

I don't think it's that big a deal though. Just think of him as Ronald Torreyes (since our actual back-up SS is hitting, and is also kind of our starting 3B. Seriously though, in past years this spot really would have gone to a back-up SS that they didn't really need, since the starter plays almost every day and two of the other IF can play the position. But that never stopped them the other times).

All he really has to do is have one decent game or a couple of good pinch-hits to turn his season around statistically. And if not, something will change in two months.

I was ready to cut him after he handed that game to LA. but all of a sudden, he looks like the old Kimbrel that tore up the league. Just wow.

Falter will probably pitch 20 scoreless innings next....
