I will say that Klentak made the right move because Irvin is the exact type of pitcher one wants against the Royals. They don't hit a lot of HRs and he controls the running game very well. Young team that gets frustrated against a pitcher like this. Pivetta or De Los Santos would not be as good a fit.
I also think Irvin might be the ideal long man on a team with 5 RH starters. If they decide to do a short starter outing then Irvin changes the lineup around. I wonder if he is suited to pitching 2-3 innings twice a week? It is a different type of usage but might be the way he can stay in the majors long term.
