But who should they play instead? Pache is hitting .118. Merrifield is worse defensively and no better offensively (I realize, you, like me, wish he wasn't on the team, just like we both wish Nick wasn't on the team. But he is). And they have to get rid of Pache before any of the other (still not-great) AAA options are even in the mix.
We can't really talk about WAR with Castellanos because we know he is poor defensively; our 3B didn't even put up more WAR than him the last two seasons. You live with that for the bat, if you get the bat. Unlike Bohm Castellanos isn't going to get better but you still need to find out if he can get back to his 2023 levels. And the only way to do that is to play him. And the team is winning so what is supposed to work better? Every team always has a few slumping guys, especially in the first half. Last year it was Turner. The year before that it was, well, Castellanos - but also every CF, and Stott was a non-factor at the plate.
