Yeah they probably should have led this game 6-2 before the late-inning relievers even gave it back.

A loss the Phillies earned by their own terrible play.

Blow the chance for the sweep which they should have gotten today.

Games like this happen to every team but if you play like losers too often, you really become losers. This team is better than this. Time to step up and show it.

Phillies win series but still have the bottom tier record at 3-6.. playing .333 baseball is playing like a last place team. Very early in the season and way too early to panic. But each game lost makes a good season more difficult to achieve.

I do worry they are relying way too much on 1-inning relievers. The Reds got to the late innings with 2 2-inning pitchers. The Phillies have a style that will lead to huge numbers of appearances for their 1-inning high 90s relievers. Seranthony pitched yesterday and I was a little unsure he was ready for back to backs and certainly not closing the game.

Bellatti has been taxed too and all these 1-inning outings meant he was probably unavailable too. Some of this is on Thomson because he was probably looking for a blowout situation to use McKinley Moore in. Moore has been here since Tuesday but has yet to pitch over 5 games. Letting Moore pitch the 6th inning today would have left Soto as another late inning option.

Well, they need longer starts and bigger leads too. But yeah, if they're not going to get them (and the state of the rotation and line-up suggests they won't) that needs to be accounted for.

And you're right, what was the point of replacing Marte with Moore (and potentially losing Ortiz) if he wasn't gonna pitch?

A Seranthony demotion/rest would just mean a lot of painful Soto/Kimbrel innings, so let's hope managing his usage more is the answer before that.

I think Seranthony is capable of back to backs. Just not sure I want to see much of it in the first couple of weeks of the season. Especially because his control has been off. Ideally our pitchers will go deeper the next few times through the rotation. But they are not doing that now so one needs to manage the bullpen differently.

Vasquez (first win since 2018 yesterday!) seems to be the only one they are letting pitch multiple innings now . He just does not seem to be a particularly good pitcher especially for that role. More of a 1-inning LOOGY type that could get overexposed really quickly in longer outings against more right-handed bats.

Good point, as well as Zamby’s note about not using Moore. Strahm was going to be that multi-inning reliever until he was pressed into starting duty.

On the positive side, nobody hit Dominguez hard in the 9th inning today. It was the walks that did us in.
