As bad as this was, and it was bad, it is just one loss. Of course, blowing a 5 run lead to lose by 4 is hard to take.

Yet had Ramos thrown a better slider on the 2-2 count to Robles in the ninth, it might have been the game ending K and we all are celebrating another win.

For me, I really hate letting the Nationals get off the mat. We have started well this season but this is the second game that the bullpen has blown a win and given the Nationals a win. Championship teams don't do that very often.

In spite of the two games the bullpen has blown to the Nationals so far this year, I think the bullpen will be pretty good this season.

Alvarez is a problem. He has looked pretty shaky over and over so far since joining the Phillies. He does not have an option left so he may well end up being lost soon. I don't see how they can not make a move or two in the pen soon.

Yeah, for now. We still have an inning to get through.

Yup Hector was the best of 'em. Even so I think Gabe left Nola in too long but reliever unavailability hurt at both ends. We actually do miss Hunter and Arano.

But 7-3 is a stellar start, if they hit like they have and also win as many closes one as they lose flaws are okay. A flawed Nola still probably isn't.

Worst bullpen in baseball. I would take whatever the Orioles have over this.

I think Klentak should be on the phone with KImbrelll's agent seeing how much it would take to sign him for one year. Personally, I think our pen is awful. Alvarez should be dropped immediately. We should never be in a position where we are relying upon a "never was" like Ramos to close out a game. Our pen is marinal at best. It is not a pen that a World Series contender should be relying upon.

This is one game. We have Pazos ready to go in AAA for Alvarez. Things are not that bad as lots of teams are having bullpen issues early. Overuse of these arms is as much an issue as quality. We probably need more 2-inning outings and fewer overall outings from some relievers.

I might be interested in Kimbrel after the draft when there is no compensation involved. Not now though.

Maybe some of these relievers didn't get enough more work down in Clearwater. Robertson seems to be coming around with a 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K line since hitting rock bottom a week ago today in Washington. Makes me wonder if he wasn't really done with spring training yet last week. Ditto for relievers struggling with other teams as well. Perhaps the popular sports science of limiting their ST work isn't quite on the money?

I think Robertson had a 5th outing in a complex game. 5 outings is what he wanted to do by plan, duplicating the last couple of years. He had the track record that would justify that use, so it is hard to question it too much.
