Game came down to walking 8 and allowing 6 of them to score.

A look at the two long men in the bullpen. Not a good first look.

Phillies score 4 on 10 hits which might be good enough on many nights, but not tonight when the long relievers were giving up 6 runs.

Need a win behind Nola to take the series.

Stroman was pretty good. Mixing all 4 pitches well. Does really throw harder than 92 these days, but commands it and the pitch variety and movement make him an above average starter. Anderson was not unlike that also though really relied on 2 pitches more (fastball, change).

I hate to say that the bullpen's still-weak link (middle/long relief) cost us the game, but....

In the broader perspective, this was our 5th starter against the Mets 2nd starter in a game where three of our better bullpen options were not available. There was a reason we sat Cutch and Hoskins most of the game. This was just a game we were likely to lose going in. There is no excusing Velasquez' performance. Imagine he has a short leash. He just does not seem to have a bullpen mentality yet. It has always been about waiting for the next starting rotation opening.

Velasquez had one very good inning and then in the second inning, he walks four. Not sure what to say but he has to be able to give them at least 3 good innings most times out if he is to fill the long/spot role.

We have to remember, the best team will lose games. Important to win today with Nola.

With VV, you just never know what you are going to get from day-to-day or inning-to-inning to batter-to-batter. When you bring him in, hope for the best, but be prepared with someone getting loose and ready to warm at the first sign of trouble. His stuff can be great, witness striking out the heart of the order.
