One bad pitch by Nola, almost bailed out by a catch over the wall by Quinn. That’s all it took to change the tide of this game due to our offensive struggles.

well I guess that's what Joyce wanted to happen with two outs. we were still maybe gonna lose this on a sacrifice fly anyway.

Too bad to lose a Nola start with such strong work overall. Offense wasn't bad but they still have trouble getting 'em home. Of course today they were missing three starters too.

Pretty much a par road trip at 3-4, would have liked to win another one against the bad team, but Denver makes it a crapshoot. And hey, if it was hockey our record would be 3-3-1.

I kind of think this is just how it is gonng be until June or July. Gotta just keep playing .500 ball and hope nobody else in the division gets hot (unless it's us). Doesn't look like Herrera is going to be any kind of answer. Need Bohm and Cutch to come around, and Segura back. Then come the other moves.

Yes. You never make the 3rd out at 3B. You can make the 2nd out on a risky play but not the 3rd. If you can't setup a sac fly the expected run math just does not work unless you are absolutely sure the runner can take 3rd.

I feel like everybody knows that to be "The Book" and yet that's at least the second and maybe even the third time this season. And knowing the bottom of the inning starts with the other team having a guy in scoring position made it even riskier.

Quinn played that HR well but I wonder if the taller regular RF would have had it.

Another loss when we get pretty good pitching. Only 4 hits given up in over nine innings, and only 2 walks, both intentional. Hate to walk Williams, who seemed to strike out pretty often this series, but with a runner on third and one out, I can't argue with the move. Unfortunately, the Cardinals scored on the at bat after each of the IBBs.

Phillies had early baserunners that they couldn't cash in but came back to tie the game after Carpenter hit the 3 run home run. Carpenter raised his average with the pinch hit homer to .095, so I guess they figured Nola would be able to get him out without damage.

So another tough loss, but still good signs for the future.

While I agree that Joyce trying for third was a bad idea, it seems unlikely the Phillies would have scored anyway. The Cards would likely have walked J.T., brining up the still hitless Odubel.

Herrera now up to 12 out bats without a hit. Not off to that fast start that he needed to cement his place in centerfield. Quinn has outhit him with his solid 3 hits in 36 at bats. Kingery making a strong bid for regular action, getting his hit in only six at bats. Clearly, no one has stepped up to claim the centerfield job. I personally would give Herrera the start in most of the games in the coming homestand and hope he starts hitting. The bar is low. Hitting over .200 probably wins the centerfield job. Herrera is striking out at a lesser rate than the other two so far, striking out 1 in 4 at bats. Kingery is 1 in 3 and Quinn more often than 1 in 3 at bats. The other centerfield candidate, Moniak, had 3 hits in 25 at bats and struck out 12 times. One of these four surely can do much better at the plate than any have so far.

They may as well be more patient with Herrera than they were with Moniak (which, not his fault, he shouldn't have been up to begin with), especially if they were going to let Haseley have 50-75 ABs. Of course Haseley is still a young player that was supposed to improve, while Herrera is just continuing what he'd become in over his last full season (second half of one & first half of the other).

Right now they could still let Kingery get a couple of weeks work in AAA once Segura comes back but unless Odubel comes around he probably ends up playing there, along with Quinn, until we make a trade. And you still can't rule out Maton though he started coming back to earth in this series before today.
