Well, that's a whole different argument than "Joe stuck with Wheeler too long and it cost the Phillies the game." Really what you are saying is the game was not as important as Wheeler's long-term effectiveness, and if the bullpen lost the game, who cares. Which is fair enough.
But these decisions are not supposed to be made on the fly, ever, in 2022. Between the manager, the pitching coaches and the coordinators there's a a pitch count, an innings/match-up script and various anticipated scenarios. There's no reason to ever stick with a guy too long or not have someone ready (unless the script was "Wheeler's going five no matter what." )
