The thought f Ed Wade on TV made me laugh. He has zero personality. Amar is actually a decent analysts do played baseball, s he can tak about pitching strategy and arm sets. I doubt Ed Wade understands anything like that.

Speaking f which Rick Botallico was retry hard I the post game about the launch angle hitting approach. He said it looked like Hoskins had finally recovered and he hoped Kingery reminds himself some day. Thought that was interesting.

i agree with A Town on the drafting and signing point. Development has to be better as well. i don't know that Domonic was a scouting error. he was a 20th round pick (a flyer out of HS) who we were surprised that he signed back in '06. and looking at his minor league stats, he did pretty well at every stage of development. i remember seeing his first major-league at bat against Cincy, on TV, the double in the RC gap. Standing O by the crowd. he had that great 2 months, which gave him that great year in philly. and then... what happened? he got to the bigs, just couldn't stay there. was it a developmental problem? head to big for his shoulders with instant success? don/t know. all i know is that i saw him in his first game at reading and he a HR over the pool and close to out of the stadium that game. i thought he would be a beauty. too bad.

ATown certainly posted plenty about how the Phillies' mess with Dom's development at the time. Somehow they managed to both call him up to soon and failed to give him enough of a chance, while also forcing him to change positions. But he's not blameless either (which he's certainly discussed). The really good to great ones still overcome whatever, and now Kingery's the big question mark in the regard.

We should probably appreciate the Francos and Browns and even Hoskins who get as far as they do. There was a time when Michael Taylor seemed a better bet than Dom, and Cozens a better bet than Rhys.

I guess i worded that inelligantly. I don't think Domonic was a scouting error. I see him as a scouting success and a development error. Altherr also a scouting success. We did better with our later round H.S. OF picks than with our #1 picks. That is where the scouting errors have been. Guys like Hewitt and LGJ and Randolph, who never should have been first rounders and Moniak, who never should have been a 1.1.

Moniak wasn't really a 1:1, he was a package deal with the money to sign Gowdy.
That was a really weak 1st rd so it wasn't a bad move.

Man what I wouldnt do to get the Dodgers player evaluators and coaches. Phillies have had 3 players from that draft make the majors for a combined negative one WAR. Dodgers have has 12... And that "weak" draft has yielded them Gavin Lux, Dustin May, Will Smith, Zach McKinstry and Tony Gonsolin

No, he was a 1-1. Every single pick at the top is a "package" deal and the slots were bigger back in 2016 at the top to enable teams to do that. Moniak was a 1-1 in a year where there was not a crystal clear 1-1 choice. That is very different than saying he was a package deal though, because we could have signed Gowdy even if we had selected any other player first that year. Senzel was the top bonus at only $100K more than Moniak. At 1-1 Senzel might have cost a few hundred thousand more, but that would have been rearranging the overpay for someone like Stobbe or Irvin rather than skimping on Gowdy.

None of those guys were 1-1. Ian Anderson's the best of them now and I don't recall him ever coming up (Groome was discussed more). And Senzel looks like our 2015 second-rounder (albeit without the salary).

Of course, he's only in his third season but Senzel has kind of been a bust so far in The Show. It seems as if some Reds fans think that the Reds moving him around the diamond is damaging him--like many Phillies phans suggest about Kingery--but this Reds blogger doesn't think so.
