Yup I think the lethargy is chicken/egg. When you have top to bottom talent and people performing you have energy. When you don't, you don't. Now, of course it is Klentak and Kingery's job to try and get them through and make good decisions. But it's also not the end of the world for an injured team to have a bad road trip. They didn't actually lack energy or focus as recently as Friday and Saturday (though they only got one win). The line between a 2-5 road trip - which I hope they'll still have - and a 4-3 road trip can be fine even with a full line-up.
But what we've seen, I think, is that the pitching and defense isn't good enough to win many games when the offense isn't humming. Ergo, an upgrade. They don't have to do it now, to me Nola remains the biggest X factor. But I wouldn't wait on Keuchel just because of the draft pick. If he wins even one more game for you in May and you win the division by one game that's worth more than a draft pick (and a draft pick is worth less than a trade deadline package).
I think it's moot because Keuchel still hasn't lowered his price enough. If they give him $18 million now, even pro-rated, they are close to done for the year, unless they can shed some of those bullpen salaries.
