KInda feel bad for Ashby.. 53 pitches.. and he gets the loss and his ERA bumps up almost 3 points.

We would be screaming if Joe left a reliever out there that long.. Wonder what the Brewers fans are saying right now.

Nice to see the bot giving the player summaries for the game. Good the bats came alive. Disappointing first 5 IP against a starter who came into the game with an ERA of 11.7 and 7.7 BB/9. He has been as good on K-rate as he was today. Perhaps just rounding into shape. -- 5 IP today, only 7 IP in first 2 starts combined. He was their best starter last season, so we caught him as he returned to form.

Comments upstream (or on 2022 Phillies thread) about rumor that MLB has deadened the ball. It's believable, since they keep mucking around with the ball and rules. Does anyone have enough trust in the impartiality of the commish to believe he would never tip of his favorite teams about a change, such as deadening the ball, prior to roster building for the season. The Phillies certainly made the wrong changes for a new dead-ball regime. I guess everyone knew (when?) about humidors in every ballpark. Was that the only change to the ball?

Ashby has been a swing starter for them. Started his last outing and went 74 pitches and 4 innings. 3.1 the previous outing. 5 days since that previous outing too.

Yeah, I do. There is a lot that's terrible about the commish but I don't think favoring teams in what would actually be fireable-offense fashion is one of them. Also see no reason to think the Phillies aren't one of his favored teams!

The humidor news broke long after the rosters were set, so that's interesting.

Baseball will have humidors in every park — what it mean for offense?

Currently the Rockies, Diamondbacks, Red Sox, Mariners, Mets, Astros, Marlins, Cardinals, Rangers and Blue Jays use the humidor in their home parks. That leaves a plethora of humid parks that might see their park performance change this year as hitters will hit drier balls into the air in those venues.
