I don't think the pick is an issue for the Phillies. It's either his term demands or his one-year salary demand (which would put them close to the tax and unable to upgrade in July).
If you really thought Kimbrel could win you one game a month that you'd otherwise lose, those two-three wins alone (because who knows how fast he'd join the team in June) are probably worth more than a third-round draft pick and the int'l money.
The other thing is Kimbrel supposedly wants to close and the Phillies aren't willing to offer that. Nor are the Mets.
Now, if we find out Arano (elbow inflammation) is headed for surgery (instead of having a phantom injury) and Robertson is out for two months, or the bullpen actually starts costing them in the standings (they remain in first) I might feel differently. But there are going to be so many relievers in play in July. If nothing changes before that point hopefully they can figure out a way to offload some of Nicasio's salary (or Alvarez) amidst the deal-making.
