Great job by Pinto. That splitter, if he can throw it consistently, will keep him in the majors, it's filthy, basically a changeup with a sharper dip and some horizontal movement away from LH hitters.
Interesting contrast, 7 years ago, 4 seamer averaged 95.7, but hitters hit .413 against it, .381 against his 95 MPH 2 seamer, but .175 against his changeup.
Last night, 2 seamer averaged 91.8. But the splitter made it look faster. Curve was a "show me" pitch.
Shows you that velocity is a bit overrated, it's the portfolio of pitches and how you command them that matters most.
Turnbull averaged 91.7 on his cutter, but has been consistent at 93+ the last few years, so he should get a little more velo as he builds up arm strength. Been primarily a cutter/sllider/2-seamer, but last night threw more curves (10) than 2-seamers (9). Also has a change he uses as a "show me" pitch.
