Many years ago I took my younger child to see JP Crawford play in Lakewood, just in case JP ended up being a star for the Phillies someday. There was a familiar name in the Aberdeen IronBirds lineup, well, a last name at least, one Mike Yastrzemski. He had a game much like he's having tonight, seemed like the best player on the field (obviously a very tiny sample size). Wasn't thought to be a prospect. And here he is, still beating up on my organization.

Yastrzemsky was in the Orioles' system for six years. At times he showed promise, at times he didn't. He did seem to have his best years in A ball, so maybe it's not surprising he hammered the BlueClaws. The Giants seemed to figure something out with him and turned him into a serviceable ML player. But, after being a college player who who as in the Orioles' system for six years, it's hard to chide the Orioles from moving on from him when they did.

He's the fantasy of what you want Jake Cave or Weston Wilson or Cal Stevenson to still be. But it's rare.

I suspect the name also bought him a bit of patience with some baseball people.

Sure. And Kody Clemens is about to hit that point, assuming Wilson takes his spot. All three guys with famous relatives!
