Brogdon not putting up much of a fight to keep his spot when Kerkering is back.

He certainly deserves one more chance (hopefully the team doesn't have the kind of situations that would put him in two) but even if they'd taken him over one of the option guys (if Kerkering had been healthy) he was probably on a short leash.

The Phillies continue the consistent losing that they have experienced since March 14th. An extremely disappointing start to the new season. It is especially hard to take after the six shut out innings put up by Wheeler today. The bullpen was pretty bad today: 9 runs on 7 hits, and 5 walks in 2 IP before Marte had a scoreless 9th.

The top of the order was 0 for 14 (2 walks) today. Time to step up and produce on the field. Sure need a couple wins this weekend. I don't want to see them floundering around until June. Now is the time to keep pace with the Braves.

Which national prognosticator said the Phillies would have the best bullpen in baseball? Welp....

Just about all of them. Of course even a great bullpen isn't going to be perfect or shut down a team as good as the Braves. But our bats couldn't answer before it fell apart so fast.

I would say just win the series but I am not counting on it.

It was the first game of the season which means the managers needs to let his guys have some leash and also not manage like it's October. And Strahm isn't a match-up reliever per se. But he had faced three batters and given up two hits. They could have gone to Seranthony or Hoffman to get Duvall.

Immaterial if Alvarado pitches that poorly anyway or if they're short on options by the ninth but it could have still been a 2-0 game.

We've seen worse pitching. Once, I think. Wonder what happened to Strahm? Alvarado, the closer? Big Rob likely still asking that himself.

Not the statement you want you want to make home opening day against your rival. Up 2 - 0 against Strider. Wheeler pitching shutout through 6. All gone in 1/3 of an inning.

I thought Big Rob might have been sentimental starting Marsh, but Marsh knows how to show he's ready to play.

Maybe the pen and the hitters will show up today.

Well Alvarado is obviously not the closer, it was the 8th inning and they were losing. It's all about match-ups and situations. Unfortunately against the Braves there are no weak spots Strahm didn't do his job (get some of the lefties out) and they let him face the RHB anyway. Alvarado just didn't have it.

It should be hard for any bullpen to shut down our line-up too, and yet...

Strider is a RHP, there was no way Marsh wasn't starting yesterday. Merrifield and Pache will each get a start (at least) over the next three games, all LH starters (including the Reds on Monday).
