The Mets went 65-38 after they bottomed out on June 3. I think that was the best in baseball. Since that same date, the Phillies have gone 54-48. If the season started that day, they would be 10.5 games ahead of us. I would argue that they have been a better team than us for some time now.
I dread that this Mets team may be another 2003 Marlins or 2019 Nationals situation, a team which crashed and burned in the spring--which was pretty much expected of them--but then got hot, never looked back and developed a "why not us?" sense of confidence and joy and seemingly took the pressure and expectations that their opponents had and rubbed them in their favored opponents' faces along with the reality that they weren't supposed to be there but were and had less to lose.
