Thompson isn’t made for the big moment. He had his stroke of genius with a little luck in game 1 of the NLDS but has pushed many wrong buttons since. He seems like a manager that the guys like and play well for, but he’s probably a C or C- as a tactician. Can’t get rid of him but not sure he has the instincts to win it all.
This series has also shown how much we needed to get a good bench/platoon bat and another bullpen arm at the break. I get the Lorenzen acquisition (we didn’t think Sánchez could hold up), but a bat and an actual useful bullpen arm were more important. Also paid Walker a lot of money to not throw a pitch in the postseason.
