I love that the Braves were basically out of the game after the 3rd inning. That has to undermine their confidence going into tomorrow.

Wow, just wow. Hoskins' home run was one of the grandest moments I've seen on a baseball field. My wife and I were amazed to see Schwarber walked to pitch to Rhys. It made no baseball sense, and we were buzzing that they were trying to break the slumping Hoskins by disrespecting him in front of 45,000. And then, first pitch, he hits it 400 feet.

Redemption is a long, sweet drink.

Watching the highlights again and I gotta say it: if it had been J-Roll (or heck, Maikel Franco or Odubel Herrera) spiking the bat like Rhys did a lot of people would be complaining about it. (I am not, to be clear, complaining about it.)

I have always been a fan of all the bat flips. When the batter is expressing joy it is fine. The line is really whether you are taunting the opposition and that was not the case here or with Bautista (or Yordano Alvarez the other day). Kind of like NFL End Zone celebrations where the players should be allowed to display emotion without taunting the opposition. If Hoskins had pointed or yelled at the pitcher that would be different.

I agree, Hoskins joy was obviously all about his own journey and overcoming of struggles at the plate.

It was a wonderful moment. I hope if it had been Rollins or Abreu et al. that it would have been accepted as such too.

Yup, it's all good. But the "unwritten rules" (don't watch your home run, don't run too slow, act like you've been there before) still loom for some.

Funny how it's never been an issue in hockey (and almost the opposite in soccer). Goals are too scarce not to celebrate.

For Hoskins it was so out of character, which is what made it so great.

If I had a bat in my hand last night, I would have spiked it when Hoskins homered, and I wasn’t the one who hit it. We all got emotional; I can’t imagine what it felt like for Rhys. I loved watching it.

This was not some defensive lineman dancing after a sack when his team is down 30 points. And it’s not a guy admiring his long ball at a meaningless time in the game (and maybe getting only a single when it clangs off the wall).

To be clear I consider it a good thing, and progress, that it was universally celebrated (as far as I know). Just not sure the double standard is gone.

And, let's face it, if that had been Harper and he was still playing for the Nationals we would have HATED it. It's kind of hard to say whether Harper has genuinely become more likable, and his showmanshp more accepted by baseball, or if it just feels that way because he's ours and we love him now.

The bottom of the third was the loudest and most fun 1/2 inning I've ever been to. I couldn't hear a word the people next to me were saying. Everyone was just screaming
