I hate the bye being this early, but Lane being concussed, will help him get completely through the protocol before the next game and all the other players nagging injuries will get some extra healing time as well. Steelers in two weeks, but it also allows the Phillies to have the spotlight to themselves for what is hopefully their championship run.

Eagles trade a 4th round pick to the Bears for DE Robert Quinn.

Not a bad deal at all. He can rush the passer, and the cost is fairly low.

He was a monster last year (18.5 sacks); he has one so far in 7 games. I'm cautiously optimistic, though, hoping he will find his game here.

The eagles game today has to be one of the first times (if not the first) that a team scored 35 points, all on offense and only ran one play in the red zone the entire game (Sanders ran for a TD).

I hope the Steelers return to their normal very good team soon, they seem to have a lot of problems. Kenny Pickett played well, but they are not really a threat in any way in the field.

And if AJ Brown had not been caught from behind the play before Sanders' run they would have had 5 TDs with no red zone!

Eagles put Davis on IR, call up DT Wilson from the practice squad for tonight's game.

Wow, I haven't watched any of the Prime games live, they are really pushing the betting. It seems to be their #1 sponsor and the talking heads are spending more time on betting lines than actual non-betting discussion of the game.

I almost think the league is going have to step in and change how the game is broadcast soon.

In the interview with Vick, McNabb and Hurts, an interesting star comes out.

Philly is often accused of racism because the baseball team was so late to integrate and during the late 40s and early 50s was clearly anti-black players. But honestly, that isn't the city or the fan base, but a small group of players at the time, which I honestly don't think was representative of the population. Then of course there was the treatment of Dick Allen, well, that is slightly before my time and has been thoroughly discussed on this site. I will let the discussions stand as is, I don't have information to add to it.

The stat is that the Eagles have FAR AND AWAY the most starts by a black quarterback. From Cunningham, McNabb, Peete, Vick and even Vince Young (and now Hurts). And despite Vick's problems before coming there they were all basically loved in Philly (except Young, who only started a few games and simply was not very good). McNabb at times rubbed people the wrong way, but never me. If you can enjoy Magic always smiling, why can't McNabb? No, he didn't win championships, but he won a ton of games and playoff games and changed the level of success of the Eagles, bringing them to heights they had not reached before.

I would dispute the notion that Randall and McNabb had an easy time of it/were "basically loved." They had their fans but just as many detractors. Donovan was booed on draft day! And race (often disguised, as it still can be today, behind the dialogue of what constitutes a "pro style" quarterback) was certainly a part of it. Especially when the fans fells in love with the likes of AJ Feeley and Jeff Garcia (even if that was also just typical grass-is-greener/back-up QB syndrome).

Time, and changes in the game have softened things now. Most people feel as you do in your final sentence, that Donovan (and Randall too) were part of great eras that just didn't include a championship. Nobody was real happy about that in the moment though.

Of course football is a majority black sport and Philadelphia is a majority black city and Jeffrey Lurie is no Ruly Carpenter or Bill Giles. The stereotypical Eagles fan may still be a white South Philly or Delco guy but that is by no means the whole fan base. The Phillies, on the other hand...

The myth that "Donovan" was booed on draft day still persists. The booing wasn't of Donovan, but was of the choice to pick Donovan over another player preferred by the (mostly ignorant) fans led by Angelo Cataldi, Ricky Williams, who happened to be black also. Any player other than Williams would have been booed lustily. So there is no conceivable world in which the draft-day booing was racially based. They were booing the Eagles for not taking a running back, not for picking a black QB. In every respect the fans were wrong about that one--Williams smoked himself out of the league, running backs were and are not as valuable as QBs, and the Eagles' brain trust picked the right QB at their draft position.

Too add a comment about Randall, the fans did love him--it was so much fun to watch him make spectacular play after play. It's too bad Buddy Ryan couldn't be bothered to actually coach him and run an offense.

I didn't actually say the booing of him on draft day was race-based, just that he was (to say they were booing the Eagles' action rather than the player, well, tell that to Donovan's mother)! Regardless of the fact that that Ricky was also Black (hey, at least they couldn't take Tim Couch!) it was a shaky start for the relationship, especially when Angelo Cataldi and Ed Rendell are against you (even if Cataldi came around, not like he had a choice).

Exactly my recollections PC. Buddy Ryan said defense wins and told Randall just to o out there. And of course he had Rich Kotite as an offensive coordinator for a while. I remember a Sports Illustrated with Randall on the cover as “The ultimate weapon,” He really was the first running quarterback. Donovan was the first Eagle to go to the Super Bowl after Jaworski, like twenty years later.

I really have no idea why Gannon is talked about as a Head Coach. He is getting laughably out coached tonight, again.

Quick clue, when it is 3rd and 8 and your safeties are 25 yards downfield, you are playing 11 vs. 9.

No pressure. No penetration. No adjustment to fix it. Washington is simply running over the defense which is allowing a pretty bad QB chances to throw because the LB's have to support the run and the safeties are defending a 50 yard throw.

BK, they miss the big kid. teams know how to beat them now. Poor coaching on all ends. 2 runs the first half. they have been running the ball pretty well all year and 2 runs tonight. Why? With who they are playing coming up, they could lose the next four. Indy will run, The Pack will run, Tennessee will definately run. people still pooh pooh the giants. I think that has to stop. one good thing, they pick up a better draft choice from this loss. one edge and one big d lineman with their first 2 picks next year.

Eagles were beaten on all phases. I just wonder who was the official that was watching the Dallas catch, run and fumble? that was so visible I can't imagine not calling it. Side Judge, back Judge, Judge Judy? whoever it was, did he have any skin in the game? Just amazing. again, they might have given up the ball after that play and Washington deserved the win a lot more than the eagles. they had a great game plan. but man, I hope that official has an eye doctor appointment today.

Even being "beaten" in every phase of th4e game, when Quez caught the ball on the 15 yard line, if he doesn't stumble and fumble, the Eagles are down 5 in the red zone with 5 minutes to play. They likely win from there.

It was just one of those games where a bunch of unusual bad things happened. Games like that happen once and a while and like you said they still could have won the game. Bad news on Geodert, looks like he'll miss some time with a shoulder injury.

I was screaming and cursing at Gannon. Why you wouldn’t pressure a back-up quarterback on third downs was completely beyond me. Horrible adjustments by Gannon. Okay the first drive, but to let Washington do it over and over was unforgivable. Needed to make adjustments BEFORE halftime.
