My priorities if they fall:

Pitts (no chance he's there), Chase, Sewell, Horn, Waddle, Surtain, Paye, Parsons, Slater, Darrisaw, Smith

I don't get the Waddle hype.His tape seems average (although I really liked Jeudy and thought Ruggs would be a good fit in Philly, yet neither of them has done much so far).

I like Horn, but am not sure he sticks at CB in the NFL. He seems too stiff in the hips for that. I think I'd rather get someone like Zaven Collins at the bottom of the 1st or top of the 2nd.

I am all for trading down to accumulate assets, but passing on Sewell, Chase, and Pitts might bite the Eagles in the long run. Maybe if they can get Parsons or Smith at 12. Maybe Slater? Otherwise, I think I'd prefer a trade down again to target someone like Azeez Ojulari.

I've not seen where players with existing contracts are automatically receiving more money. Additional checks are being added (I believe I read 34 checks now over the league season), but I've not seen evidence they carry any bump to the players' base wage as a result. If they did, there would need to be an accounting adjustment to each team's respective salary cap.

Essentially the bulk of the additional money is going to players on rookie or league minimum contracts. The profit sharing did tilt from 47% to 48.5% for the players. If we use the league's 2019 profits of $16b, the 1.5% increase translates to $240m in additional salary for the players - $7.5 per team. Factor in the additional two roster spots at $610k minimum (double if they are veterans), and you have $6.3m to spread over the remaining 53 players. About $120k per player.

Conversely, you have the additional game's share for owners. In 2019, each game took in about $11.6m in on-site fan revenue alone. This is typically split 60/40 between local and league to help offset teams with lower attendance. Using the enterprise number, the 17th game generates an additional $4.6m in shared revenue, of which $2.4m goes to the owner ($9.4 if they host the game).

The players see the 17th game's revenue as a $2.2m bump to the following year's cap - theoretically $40k each if spread evenly over the 55-player roster. But again, I've not seen a way those in the middle of a contract will see a share in that amount until they negotiate their next extension or new contract.

This article indicates any player (earning more than mimimum for experience) will get an extra check if they signed their contract pre-CBA ratification (Feb 20, 2020). With a few caveats, af course.

Thanks for sharing - I missed that article. While it appears the agreement allots extra checks to a number of players, there's a fairly significant caveat in nullifying checks for players on minimum contracts or who have had their existing deals renegotiated in any way. With the COVID-impacted salary cap dropping $16m/team this year there has been an uptick in the amount of restructures in this season alone as teams adjust to accommodate the lowered ceiling.

It's already been proposed that the owners secured a large number of votes for the new CBA by catering to the larger share of players who happen to occupy the lower end of the league's pay scale - specifically, those competing for a job (increasing each team's roster by two players), and those playing at minimum wage (rookie minimum increased to $610k) - obtaining a narrow 1019 - 959 approval. Excluding checks for the additional game to players whose contract has been in any way restructured seems a slight to the minority of players who are taking the majority of on-field wear. In most situations contract restructures, renegotiations, and even extensions, are initiated with higher-salaried starters to help a team relieve cap pressure in a given season.

So in doing their part to help the team jockey its finances they are being excluded from a game's pay.

Back to the draft--I'm going to post an Eagle-only mock with guys I think are reasonable targets where our pick is landing.

First, at 12, if Pitts or Sewelll slides to that point you take either one; I think both are generational talents.

If Fields or another QB is still on the board at 12 you have to consider trading down with NE or someone else at about pick 15 to pick up another pick (probably a 3rd or a second next year).

pick#12: CB Surtain (alternate Horn). The difference between the CBs available at 12 vs 37 is bigger than the WR difference.

I think one of Bateman, Marshall or Moore should be available at 37. There is a Moore at Purdue and one at Ole Miss.

I would also look at the WR from Clemson. Very shifty, would be a great weapon in the slot.

Was looking for a DT in that range, or a RB (this draft is strong in those two positions in the 60-100 range.) I'll fix it.

I love Bateman at #37 but I think he will bet gone. I agree one of the three WRs will be there. If CB Newsome would slip to #37 I'd be willing to go WR at #12. If I were actually drafting, I might take Waddle if there and try to trade up a bit for Newsome using some of our late-round extra picks. I think there is a big drop from Newsome to the next group of CBs.

I like McNeill, too, as a developmental DT. He plays with a high motor, and the Eagles love that.

And just trying to be funny here but in your strategy of willing to pick WR at 12 if Newsome were to slip to 37 would only work if you had a time machine or were to draft in reverse order.

Yeah, I mean that the Eagles would have enough info on the draft to project that Newsome would slip, or would be willing to gamble that he'd slip or they could trade up.

I wonder how much Farley is going to drop and if he's still there around 20-25, would the Eagles try and get back in to the first round to pick him or is the Sidney Jones memory still too raw to take a CB coming off an injury.

I think Sydney Jones is a completely different kind of injury problem, but who knows if the bad taste left behind would affect their thinking on Farley. If he's healthy he's probably just as good as Surtain and Horn (at least in terms of projecting them to the NFL).

I keep drafting Cox, Cleveland, Carter, Golston, and Duffy in my drafts, too. I wonder if that means they are likely Eagles' targets as well...?

Do you happen to remember who went 1-19 in your draft? I'd assume 5 QBs, the top 3 OTs, Pitts, Parsons, the top 2 CBs, 3 DEs?, and who else?

Actually, Smith, Chase and Pitts were available at 20 in this draft, the few extra "reaches" I remember taken ahead of 20 were Leatherwood, Samual Jr., Harris, Paye and Farley, but like you said, pipe dream. In real life I'd be happy if Smith or Waddle is there at 12.

I'd love the Eagles to get Cox and Carter for real too.
