Brown was a real boom or bust type player in the end. You might have thought he'd find his way back as a bench or AAAA type, or hang around like a John Mayberry Jr., but he really never showed another flicker. As much as the Phillies did mishandle him maybe they weren't as stupid as we think they were. That Ringer article about traded prospects rarely being great because by the time they are traded their team has found the flaws that fans and other teams are unaware of comes to mind, though the Phillies never gave up on Dom in that way.
