Yeah well, a sensible recovery path won't happen without sensible leadership from Washington - and that has to include the administration dealing in reality and facts, not focusing on the President's image and psychological fragility. We need competent people in charge of coordinating the federal response - and anybody who thinks Jared Kushner and/or Peter Navarro qualify is an idiot. Period.
COVID-19 was going to be a challenge regardless of federal leadership. But incompetence and mental illness in the White House have compounded the problem and continue to be obstacles to a coherent, intelligent federal response.
Sadly, I have little expectation, or even hope, that the Trump administration will get its act together. Trump has commandeered the press briefings, turning them into silly circuses all about him, his grievances, his "brilliance," etc., instead of getting out of the way of competent people. He stands in the way of a rational federal response, even now. He's using what should be important information sessions about the pandemic as a substitute for his now-cancelled public rallies - as a way of trying to gin up public adulation, as a way of getting "ratings."
The man is, literally, killing people.
And still, millions of Americans seem to think that's OK, because he's the Chosen One, or some such rubbish... or because they were conned in 2016, and it's just to hard to admit to themselves that they were conned by a crooked conman - a candidate who didn't expect to win, didn't particularly WANT to win, just wanted the notoriety so he could monetize it.
I'll socially distance; self-isolate. With one exception - one son, who lives with us, works for Amazon Logistics. It's essential service, so five days a week, he's out there, being exposed. We do what we can to sanitize, but it's a real hole in the defenses - a hole we cannot close.
Donald Trump? Jared Kushner? Peter Navarro? Mike Pence? They don't give a darn what happens to me, or to my wife. They just want to look good, and keep power. Forgive me if I say I would crack open a bottle of champagne if Trump left office - and I'm pretty much indifferent to whether that's due to loss of election, resignation, or sudden death. We cannot address our problems if our president is delusional, and insists that the problems do not exist.
