2024 Phillies Season Discussion

I think there still might be rules in the CBA that would keep them from taking away the day off if they don't absolutely have to. Phillies already lost one last week and only have two (including tomorrow) in April. Not the travel rules, just the amount of off-days players are guaranteed in total.

Even in this WFH era, changing either the time or the day of the game has to mean thousands of fans can't go due to job or family. Though obviously last night most people just no-showed due to the weather and the doubt the game would happen.

Guessing most season ticket holders try to give away tickets for games like today. Or sell them on Stubhub for $5. And they still don't get many takers.

Yup $5 is the current get-in price on Seatgeek (which is what the Phillies now privilege internally, I believe there is even a dedicated ticket window, or at least they sponsor it).

I wonder how the math ends up working out for them. Obviously they need to try and play these games for baseball & logistical reasons and those 20,000 no-shows still paid for tickets, but you lose all the ancillary revenue from actual bodies in the seats.

My tickets for today were actually part of a three-pack that included Opening Day and a fireworks game, so still a more than solid purchase.

We have tix for today's game, and we decided to take a chance the game is postponed. I guess all that's really at risk is the 5 bucks we could have gotten on Stubhub.

I got an email from the Phillies telling me that the game will be "delayed".

With the most team's coming to town only once per season, they pretty much move heaven and earth to get the games in. If the weather is lousy, they usually give fans who had tickets the opportunity to get free tickets to another game. That happened to me a couple of times.

That infamous 4:41 a.m. game happened after Montgomery insisted that there was a "window" to get the doubleheader in.

Looking at the accuweather "Minutecast" the heavy rain does not start till around 6 PM. Light rain before that. Let's score some runs and get 6 good innings out of Zack.

The cynic in me says they are going to wait until people are in there buying concessions until they eventually postpone the game.

Last year the "special ticket offer" I got for one of the rescheduled games was a discount not a freebie (and for one of this year's games).

I went to a game in April ONCE. I froze and swear never to do that again.

Yeah April games can still get quite chilly and not the type of chilly playoff excitement can ward off.

I went to a game in Worcester yesterday and it was chilly and a bit wet. On the rare occasions I go to an April game, it's never a night game. Of course, the fans tonight didn't intend to go to a night game...

The problem is twofold - putting the fans through this sort of rigmarole, and then, once the game is finally played, potentially not giving them a quality product (both on and off the field).

In this day and age I also wonder what affect it has on the sports books. Do the lines get suspended during some of these delays. Are the offshore/overseas books taking bets on actual rain-related props?

Of course most of those 30 seasons were also just not good teams (the 1993 team which I guess just misses the cut-off here, did have a winning record).

The Philadelphia Phillies are 2-4, extending the franchise’s admirable consistent string of bad starts. They have had a winning record through six games only five times in the last 30 seasons. Their commitment to the bit is remarkable.

I love small sample sizes. The two highest dWAR players so far are Rojas and...Harper! Only other positive is Pache with his seven innings.

Only four players have positive oWAR (and one of them undoubtedly would be negative except for one game). The Braves have nine, in one fewer game.

Phillies City Connect Uni has been unveiled and im actually ok with it. Lot better than most of the city connects ive seen

They're all right. The font looks more futuristic/European to me than Founding Fathers era. And the color scheme (from the city flag, which was based on Sweden) doesn't really resonate IMO. And "collar that's notably blue" is just a groaner on several levels.
