2024 MLB All-Star Game Thread

I think it was in one of the MLB labor agreements. There was an attempt a few years ago to work more off days in the schedule. I think they try to avoid consecutive weeks without an off day now as well. The new interleague schedule is a little heavier on 3-game series than the old schedules were.

Most players travel home and imagine some go back to their home country, so the extra travel is not a bad thing. I think they occasionally play a rain makeup game on the Thursday but again I think they try to avoid that also.

The current CBA below. Also, I didn't realize a tie All-Star game after 9 is settled by HR Derby.

(17) The All-Star break will contain four days, during which
time Club championship season games shall not be played.
Notwithstanding the preceding sentence, one game per season may be scheduled on the Thursday following the Tuesday on which the
All-Star Game is played, provided that (i) no Club shall be scheduled more than once for this game during the term of the Basic
Agreement; (ii) the game must be scheduled no more than one time
zone away from the time zone in which that season’s All-Star Game
is played; and (iii) there is no Sunday night game immediately prior
to the All-Star Game. Further, any workout scheduled by a Club for
the off-days immediately following the All-Star Game shall be voluntary. No game on the Sunday night prior to the All-Star Game
shall be played in a location more than one time zone from the location of that year’s All-Star Game and no Club shall be scheduled to
play the Sunday night prior to the All-Star Game more than once
during the term of the Basic Agreement, except to the extent necessary to fulfill existing contractual or promotional commitments;
provided however, that in no circumstance shall a Club be required
to play such a Sunday night game in two consecutive years or more
than twice during the term of the Basic Agreement.

Allowing the actual All Star players to have 2 days after the AS game to have down time (with or without family) even if it is in the Allstar game city or the city of the next games if they can't get "home" can't be a bad thing for the players.

For sure. But it's also for every other player. Like andy suggested, we might have guys who are still flying home from the DR or Georgia or Vegas, if they so chose (or, better yet, they flew last night and have today to rest and informally work out). And obviously it's also part of the overall total off-day picture.
