There was a reasonable argument for just leaving Stott at SS and bringing back Segura, or, in hindsight, not him, but just filling 2B more cheaply. Also in hindsight there was talk of bringing in a LH power bat to cover for Harper for a half-season instead of relying on Hall and then Harper came back fast and Harper wasn't his replacement anyway.
Maybe Segura would be doing better at 2B instead of 3B, maybe not. Don't forget, he was supposed to be our 3B in 2020 (with Didi at SS and Kingery at 2B) and did in fact start 21 games (of a 60-game season) there. Not too mention he was originally acquired by the Phillies to play SS.
Turner will be fine eventually. Hopefully in two months. But certainly in the coming years. And in the meantime he still plays a good SS.
It's another instance where Hoskins' loss also hurts because at the beginning of the season everyone was like, oh, that's rough, but at least they will get power and production from the right side at SS now. Now, given Turner's struggles and the fact that Bohm hits like Cesar Hernandez (not an insult!) they still really need that RH power bat, even if it's just part-time.
We are all trained to worry about how much money these guys make relative to their production but none of it means what it used to, in the Giles era or the Monty era.
