In almost all sports, fans and writers are under the illusion that the playoffs ar an attempt to figure out which team is "best," with th meaning of best not being specified. Regular seasons are basically just being played to determine seeding and trim down the field.
In reality, the playoffs are just a tournament, and the winner of the playoffs are the champions of that event, not the "best" team, by almost any definition. We need ot enjoy the playoffs for what they are, not as some perfectly-designed experiment to unearth the best team. Especially in baseball, there are way too many random elements for that.
For me, winning the NL East is an equal accomplishment to winning the NLCS, or even the World Series. We need to enjoy the "regular season" for more than its value in playoff seeding.
