Teams are starting to look a little more like final rosters as cuts are now filtering down.

Good to see Carlos De La Cruz getting the spring training award. Clearly a sign the team likes him.

In some of the OF questions it looks like Johan Rojas and Jhailyn Ortiz will be at Lehigh Valley and Carlos De La Cruz will be at Reading. I suppose Rojas could still be pushed down by late additions, but his inclusion in AAA immediately would be a mild and pleasant surprise. Team might be hedging their bets on needing a right-handed CF complement to Marsh at some point. Let Marsh have April to prove he can handle left-handed pitching adequately and move to plan B in May if not.

No Rojas in AAA to start (though Muzziotti probably deserves that chance to play CF every day too).

I may not have seen every game stat, but Mick Abel certainly pitched well enough in Spring training from what I saw to deserve to start at AA.

Since Abel finished at AA he was probably going to start there again if he did not make AAA. Seeing the Phillies add a couple of AAA starters (Allgeyer, Zeuch) in recent days means they don't want to push him.

Ideal plan for Abel might be 10 starts in AA followed by 10 starts in AAA to see where he is after the All Star break. He needs a little more polish than Painter but he is also not far behind. McGarry is also not on that roster, so I am guessing they want to see a little more sustained success from him too.

Phillies walk it off in the 9th to finish spring training above .500 at 16-15.

Darick Hall with a "I can play every day" attempt by hitting a game winning double, going 2-3 with 2 RBI. He is sitting at 1.041 OPS so far this spring. I am not sure i think he can play every day, but it is nice to see him (and a few others) trying to sell us on the idea. Not everyone is hitting, but at least there are no significant players under .500 OPS (agreed a low threshold, but it is a small sample size).

I’m looking forward to games that count. This is my 72nd season of following and rooting for the Phillies. The first game I saw in person was a couple years before I really became a fan. As always, I am optimistic for the new season.

Figured this is as good a place as any to talk about minor league assignments over the next week or so before we get daily threads.

BTW, the AAA schedule this year starts a week before everything else. LHV plays Friday (3/31). The other 3 affiliates open up a week later on 4/7. I think this is new. Probably explains why we have only seen the AAA roster today as some decisions below that may not quite have been made. Reading and Jersey Shore play an exhibition Tuesday (4/4) so imagine we will hear those rosters before the weekend.

Hope to see LV in Durham in a few weeks. Just depends if teaching schedule allows. Unfortunately Reading comes into Richmond to start the season and never return. I hate six game home stands (start of season is three). Reading used to come in 2x per year. We have more time once classes end, but the Phils teams are coming in in April. Gggrrr. Have not checked Greensboro, but JS is not in April I am pretty sure. Hope all gets a good dose of minors this season ️️

It is disappointing McGarry is initially in AA rather than AAA...if he had pitched well this spring I suspect he'd be in LV.

Rojas reacted to his AA assignment by tripling and homering in the intra-squad game yesterday. Should be good for him to start there for a couple of months.

It's always interesting in March/April to see how the players react to the cold weather--adaptation is required of players who intend to play outdoors in the northeast.
