But I agree, my first thought was the same as bkeich, that it seems like a lot, but the penalties are worse than the money Reed gets and they will probably have to pay those when everything shakes out anyway.

I agree the whole thing as conceived here is dumb. What is even worse is that they are just double-counting regular season games. The only extra games are the finals.

The soccer versions are separate tournaments (some with teams from lower leagues, some not). The MLS one with the Mexican league this year I think will be very interesting as it will be a good way for MLS to see if they have closed the gap with the Mexican teams (and the answer is likely no - MLS has too many teams so the talent is spread too thin).

If the NBA cut their schedule by 10 games and shut down for 2 weeks for this tournament where the games were not double counted I might be more interested.

The double-counting is dumb. So does that mean they only get extra money for the finals too or is there a separate package to take the tournament games out of the regular local and national package.

I'm sure it will change several times over the next 20 years if it sticks. But, much like baseball's extra-innings, people will get used to it, while younger people won't know any different.

That's a really reasonable contract for a back-up center. He and Bamba would pair well together since Bemba loves to hoist up 3s. Mo Bamba, floor spacer!

Yeah who knows what it really means for this year's team and cap issues but in the end the extra guaranteed years aren't really a burden. Reasonable value (assuming he performs) and he can be traded then too.

If Reed continues to develop, this is a good contract, but honrestly I am just confused by the signings. Harrell really makes no sense now, that gives us at least 4 centers, even if some of them get minutes at PF, it is still strange. It is hard to imagine a lineup with 2 of Embiid, Bamba, Harrell or Reed on the floor, so it really is 4 guys playing 1 position.

I worry that Reed just had a "hot streak" which got him a 3 year guaranteed contract, but we will see. He clearly seems to play well with Harden, so we will see if he will get a chance to again. I think he might be a guy that is good at getting open for a true point guard with good vision, and without that his offense disappears. (aka Kurt Rambis)

While it's hard to see exactly how the parts fit, perhaps there is some kind of plan to reduce Joel's minutes or games played (whether by choice or minor injury).

Of course it's even harder to see how the parts fit until we know the other parts.

Agreed...I think the facts are Morey will convince Harden to play and he'll be a good soldier for a while...Sixers will probably have to wait until the deadline to move him.

Harden and "good soldier" are a big ask, but I agree. The relationship can probably be repaired. And Dame put Harden in a different spot than he was before.

Side effect of no draft picks:

Sixers summer league team is almost completely uninteresting. Springer played a few games, he is at least part of the franchise. Really no one else of any interest.

Going to have to disagree with you on that...Terquavion Smith has been really good so far and I'm thinking Filip Petrusev is at least going to make the G league team.

Smith will absolutely be on an NBA roster this season.

Yes, I really like Smith--he's long, athletic, and he can shoot. His handle isn't ideal, so he might not be able to attack close-outs, but he would be a rotation player on most teams either this year or after a couple of years of NBA competition. He seems to be a good defender, too.

They played a really interesting game vs the Mavs yesterday, they played and shot really well for three quarters, building up a 15 point lead, then played selfishly and stupidly in the 4th quarter and lost by a dozen or so. Smith and DJ Steward played well for the most part.

The Sixers have lost Shake, McDaniels and Niang from last year's roster and only added MoBamba. Springer is going to make the team finally and I do think Smith has a shot (pun intended).

I'm not saying that I don't like him, but I am a little worried about his shot. Aside from his freshman year 3P% (and on good volume) he hasn't put up great numbers. His FT% was also just .700

Aside from holding the ball a little low his form does look good, though.
