Very interesting article about how all those international signings that landed the Braves in hot water a few years back (and led to GM John Coppollela being banned from baseball) are turning out. In short, they all look disappointing, including the one the Phillies signed, C Abraham Gutierrez. Guitierrez--who is now with the Pirates--is one of the few that is actually on a team's Top 30 prospect list (Pirates #26).

Aside from the shame, yes. The money they doled out to those players in signing bonuses would have been sunk costs anyway. Crime certainly didn't pay for Coppollela. He's like the guy who went to prison for embezzling money from one entity to fund a business venture that ended up going under anyway.
