Philosophically I don't like picking HS outfielders--we have a bad history with them, and there is generally a lack of usable data to get a baseline. You're relying on the "good face, runs well" scouting evaluations that are usually bull feathers.

Top of the scale speed, likely to stick in CF, swing looks pretty quiet, add 20lbs of muscle and power will come.

Reading his scouting reports: he needs to get stronger, get a quicker bat, they hope he can stay in CF, he has an LSU commitment, he didn't play a lot on the travel circuit, he has recently changed his mechanics, he is a slap-hitter at present...that's a lot of things to correct for an organization that has shown no ability to correct anything.

Not happy with the pick and that's it until the third round. The Phillies, over a period of decades, have proven that they couldn't identify and develop a H.S. OF. The history is pathetic. They are among the top organization for H.S. pitchers, do ok on middle IFs and catchers. OF has been a black hole, in draft and internationally.

Parada was a surprising pick for the Mets given they already have a top C prospect.

The Phillies, over a period of decades, have proven that they couldn't identify and develop a H.S. OF.

But how much does that history really matter? If the organization hasn't really changed that's such a big problem I'm not sure anything matters. But otherwise there's no reason to think Brian Barber can't draft a HS outfielder and Preston Mattingly can't develop one just because 10 guys who have nothing to do with the organization now botched Jeff Jackson and Cornelius Randolph and everyone in between (plus Moniak).

Plus LGJ and the $4 million international man, Ortiz. Yes, we have new staff, but this is a problem which has persisted through many staff changes.
