They are a snapshot in time and one particular simulation (x 1000) is all. But the later in the season it gets the better, especially now that there have been more than 100 games played this year.

Bailey Falter said the plan is for him to be activated tomorrow. He threw one rehab outing at AAA. He’ll return as a traditional reliever. The Phillies do not have a lefty in the bullpen right now. Falter has appeared in two games in the last 32 days.

It appears that Falter's personal decision has cost him greatly in his attempt to become a major league pitcher.

Major league pay while on the IL list. And no demotion to AAA even to stretch him out.

Cost is relative here. He lost a shot at the major league rotation I suppose, but it is not as if he is being punished at all (money or promotion).

Yeah, not that there is anything the Phillies can really do about it that they've already tried and failed (and so it seems) but it's it's really no more than an unfortunate - but avoidable - stint on the IL early in his development. Maybe he'd be in the rotation and Ranger would still be closing, but overall he's neither lost his job nor his part in the Phillies' future plans, no more than Nola or Bohm did.

It looks like they're rotating RPs just to keep from burning out key guys in games they're buried by the 6th inning.
Llovera didn't look ready, Paulino, Medina. But they eat meaningless innings.

DLS at least has shown flashes, while Hammer seems to have earned himself a steady job.

Athletic notes column. Most interesting nugget is the last one about Adam Haseley being ready to move to AAA again. Original injury was a groin injury in June before he got COVID with everyone else in FL in July. We are now getting average defense and an OPS in the 650 range from a combo of Herrera and Jankowski. We always though Haseley could be more of a 750 OPS guy with acceptable defense also.

The column is also predictably down on Seranthony with the understandable observation that his secondary pitches are not drawing swings and misses. I have been wary though on the velocity end too. We all remember Seranthony dominating at 98+. But I also remember him being tired and being hit hard the days he was only 95-96. IMO they should not push him. Do his 30 days of rehab and then get him on a winter strength program.

It will be interesting to see what Freddy's role is. And at the end of the day, they kind of failed to improve the bench with a bat. Getting Freddy to improve the defense was still smart, and obviously Torreyes has gotten a lot of big hits, but neither of them, nor Williams, is an answer, and Jankowski has become almost as redundant as Matt Joyce, albeit with the ability to play CF well enough.

But I guess the idea is that Bohm and Didi are your bench bats at least half the time now.

Williams is not playing so I assume he goes back down when Freddy is activated. Freddy is a switch hitter but has been better this year against LHP (though historically he does not have much of a platoon split).

I am guessing he plays against all LHP and some RHP. I would not be shocked if he is part of a CF platoon if Williams is off the roster. The only OF he has played was the tiny bit with the Phillies, but I am guessing they are more comfortable with him out there rather than Torreyes. So Torreyes remains the main alternative at 3B. Freddy in CF and probably SS.

The big question as you say is how well Didi plays. We kind of know that Didi will sit against LHP. I think he probably sits more than that though. Miller probably plays a bit less with Bohm playing more 1B (or even Didi against some RHP) and there is no reason to consider Miller at 2B or 3B any more.
