My second worst nightmare scenario is the Phillies sweeping the Braves but then losing the Marlin series (or getting swept) while the Braves take care of business enough against the Mets to win the division.

Assuming, big assumption I know, that we have a shot by the third game, wouldn’t it make sense to start Suarez on Thursday instead of Gibson? He would be going on four days rest.

Gibson only threw 73 pitches in his last game to Suarez's 97, so maybe I wouldn't bump up Suarez, but if the Phillies sweep the Braves, I would consider bumping up Wheeler, Nola and Gibson on 4 days rest for the Marlins. I don't think there is any room for a bullpen game in the remaining schedule, unless the Braves eliminate them.

And skip Suarez entirely when he looks like our second-best starter atm? Right now it lines up Wheeler/Nola/Gibson against the Braves and Suarez/Bullpen/Wheeler against the Marlins, so you just need to bump up Wheeler and Nola. Then you might consider starting Suarez over Gibson in the possible Game 163 (or just have both available).

Lets hope it's worth talking about Saturday.

I tend to agree and I suspect Scherzer will ultimately win it and I would not have a problem with that but there are probably eight worthy contenders for the award this year. If it's not Wheeler, I won't come away feeling he got robbed.

Eh, it was probably de Grom's to lose before he got hurt at the beginning of July but, I suppose there might have been a two-week window if in which Wheeler took the lead for the race which was still viewed in light of "if de Grom doesn't come back this year"..

I wonder if they are thinking about bringing Bohm back for the final week. He had a good weekend in the minors and a 6-man bench could be useful in the last 6 games. I assume Brogdon replaces Crouse on the roster, so a Bohm move would be likely for someone like Dohy or Rosso. Assume they want to keep Sanchez in case they need innings in a game.

I'd be surprised. Probably still want him to get those 25 ABs over a few PHs. And the last thing he probably needs is to actually play 3B and make an error in Atlanta (even though he should probably be playing 3B).

Crouse doesn't seem any worse a choice than Dohy or Rosso for an inning on Saturday, if they do stick with the bullpen game. He could also just start it for real if they're eliminated.

They will need a move for Brogdon. Just assuming they'll want to keep all the LHPs for Freeman and others (welcome to the big leagues Kyle Dohy!) and move Crouse or Rosso.

Let's hope Alvarado and Neris and Kennedy are the only guys facing Freeman. We're probably not gonna win this series if Wheeler or Nola are out before the 6th (whether because they're struggling or getting pinch-hit for in a game we trail).

Well, Andy called for a six-man bench!

Hopefully if Bohm is coming up he's also going to play, but like I said, also dread the idea of him costing us a must-win game in the field. Not sure he is any better an option than Williams or Galvis or Torreyes if it's the 8th inning and you need a pinch-hit, but obviously he should be.

Williams lost his spot to COVID and to Vierling, really.
