You might think that, it might even be true, but only if the Phillies actually have good development coaching. And they just fired the guy in the charge of it. So will they fire Ochart, and even they do, how fast can new people fix things? Just replacing the Iron Pigs coach or Dillon isn't gonna magically turn Kingery and Haseley into starters.

Eflin's season likely done since (I gather) he can't even throw or properly train during his 10-day absence. So at best he returns in the last week or two?

They're hoping JT will hit better if they move him to first. But I'm not sure Marchan/JT is actually a better line-up than JT/Miller.

Mike Adams suggested as the next reliever the Phillies might try, since they can move Rhys to the 60. We've already forgotten Seranthony exists?

The Phillies will try J.T. Realmuto at first base after losing Rhys Hoskins to...

Joe Girardi said Archie Bradley was not available because of a shoulder issue.

And Jean Segura, in his post game zoom, said JT Realmuto was dealing with a shoulder issue. Implied it was to throwing shoulder. That could be behind plan to get Realmuto more time at first base

Phillies have signed pitchers Taylor Guerrieri (last pitched for the Mariners AAA team) and Tommy Milone (last pitched for the Blue Jays) to minor league contracts.

Is this because the COVID guys open up space on the 180?

I think they were signed before that. We have been releasing several players a week and putting more on the 60-day IL recently. We have a huge number of players on the minor league 60-day. Every time we see a new draftee, someone gets hurt. Or vice versa.

Phillies released Jake Elmore and Ruben Tejada, so I assume that’s to make room for the two new pitchers.

Joe Girardi downplayed Realmuto’s shoulder soreness, said normal for this time of year. Today is simply day off. Realmuto will play first base tomorrow, Girardi said

Zach Eflin’s season is likely finished as Joe Girardi said Eflin’s already slim chances to return in September from his knee injury became even slimmer when he was placed yesterday on the COVID IL. He has to be away from the team for 10 days.

Two non-catching days in a row seem a little more than normal for a guy that catches 6 times a week on average. JT at 1B does not really help the team that much UNLESS it was just a way to keep his bat in the lineup on a rest day. Extra playing time at 1B puts a bad catching hitter (Marchan, Knapp) in the lineup instead of Miller (or Bohm/Williams/Bonifacio if they needed a right handed hitter).

I get why Girardi does not discuss injuries with the press. But don't lie to us either.

I mean, all those things are true. I'm sure JT isn't hurt enough to go on the IL, but hurt enough to be a little cautious. Playing him at 1B is bound to be a combo of both things, the hole and needing to ease his load. But clearly Bohm isn't coming up and Williams is out for 10 days. We may yet see Galvis at 1B too.

But shouldn't they get themselves a third catcher? Whatever happened to the taxi squad, anyway?

I'd probably work Cutch out at 1B. Might save some wear and tear on his legs too. Cutch at 1B and Bonifacio in LF might be better than putting JT at 1B and having Marchan hit.

I think Uncle Larry was a Gold Glove first baseman. The year he hit 40 home runs by the All-Star Break, playing in only 24 games.

Of course, Didi finally has a good game and he's out - first time I can remember him taking the ball the other way instead of trying to pull everything, maybe the hitting coach is finally getting through to him.
