Hoskins went on the IL. Whether the moves have to be made simultaneously I have no clue.

pretty sure they do. Hoskins roster spot went to either Eflin or Alvarado.. I believe it has to be the direct result of the IL transaction

Since there was not a position player for position player swap, I think MLB would let them do it in separate transactions.

I am guessing the Phillies decided on the extra pitcher now and might want Bohm for the 28-man roster callup. There is a legit reason to want him to get some at bats down there (BECAUSE GIRARDI BURIED HIM ON THE BENCH EVEN THOUGH HE HAD BEEN HITTING PRETTY WELL)..... As you can see, not super happy with how Girardi has handled him this year. He should have been playing 1B almost full time when Hoskins was hurt. Torreyes is a nice reserve. If they could get Bohm back on the 800 OPS track like he was starting to in June/July it would help the team immensely.

I don't think these are medical failing per se. I think it's simply, "our season is two weeks away from being over and guys are going to play hurt if they can." Which most players also won't have a problelm with. The only medical failing would be if they determined there wasn't a risk of a more serious injury (beyond continuing to aggravate what they have) and then that happened.

And clearly Girardi doesn't want to play Bohm (who's no picnic defensively at 1B either) and Fuld/Dombrowski don't feel strongly enough about it to make him. Despite his very good OBP and decent (short-term) OPS, even if the power is still lacking.

And here we thought it was gonna be COVID that gave the Phillies one last wave of injuries.

Ah damn. I was just thinking his season's probably over but I figured they woudn't be sure for a few weeks.

I'd say they really do have to bring back Bohm now. Of course it will probably be Matt Joyce.

If Hoskins does have surgery we get a 40-man spot for Seranthony. We'll have one for Joyce too with Anderson's spot! Unless they need him to pitch tonight and just DFA him right back to the major league roster.

Yeah if Hoskins' season is over that starts to make a bit more sense. But hardly an answer. I really would consider bringing up Marchan. Hell, play JT at 1B a few times a week!

I guess he has been sort of hot, but he is left-handed so doubt he would get many starts ahead of Miller. Bohm at least is right-handed. Though I think I'd rather see Hall than Freddy. Not that Freddy can't play the heck out of 1B defensively. Somebody has got to hit the ball though.

I lose more and more faith in the organization every year. It seems like from an overall operations standpoint, us and a few other organizations (Baltimore, Pittsburgh, maybe a few more) are at the kid table while everyone else is eating at the adult table.

I think it appropriate to regard the Phillies as a failed organization for the past 10 seasons. I think back to what might have been had RAJ been allowed to go over budget by $6 mill for one lousy season, led the Phillies to another WS, and avoided the sense of desperation that we've seen this year. Halladay, Lee, and Hamels all in their prime and with a good team of position players behind them. A lot of the Phillies woes has to be laid at the feet of ownership.

I'm sorry to hear about Hoskins. I'm glad he ended his season on an offensive high note.

I agree that Bohm should be playing 1B. Out of all the 1B choices (Bohm, Miller, Knapp, and Realmuto), none of them are plus defensively, and the only one that I'd expect to be a plus offensively is JT and of course he's more valuable at C. Bohm's future might be at 1B so it's a good idea to get him some reps there and see if his height and experience across the diamond help improve his defensive value. If he hits poorly, it's not like he's blocking someone who would be hitting much better.

In 2019 and the first half of this season Miller was hitting well above his career numbers. He's regressed to his mean; we just got spoiled.

Overexposure. Miller and Torreyes have never played this much. Their performance was going to slip the more they play. Fewer platoon advantages. More scouting reports. Fatigue that they are not used to. Regression to the mean also. I want them both on the team, just not playing every single day.

Apparently the Hoskins injury pre-dates the groin injury which was never the biggest issue with his health.

Hard to say whether they handled this correctly. They probably figured they did not want to end his season in June or July when he had the stomach injury. Biggest mistake they made may have been not getting another 1B bat if they knew Hoskins was playing hurt.
