The law is kind of a compendium of a dozen different things to make voting more difficult. The early versions were much worse (like banning Sunday voting), but the end result still contains lots of bad things mixed with a handful of good things. The water refers to a ban on giving any food or drink (including water) to anyone standing in line in a state that usually has very long lines for early vote locations in big cities where there are not enough of them. They made voting by mail much more restrictive with harsher deadlines and ID requirements that were not really necessary and will cause lots of votes to be thrown out if people do not follow instructions perfectly. And buried in the law are things that would give the state legislature the ability to overrule counties. So in this past election they could have decided to just throw out the results.
I am just shocked that MLB took such quick action on a social issue. They probably see it as a nice thing to give to the players before the CBA that costs them little. Yes I am a cynic that does not figure MLB has suddenly grown a real social conscience.
