If they lose Butler, then I let Harris walk and when they meet with Leonard, they offer him the most money possible. I'd be fine with a big three of Embiid, Simmons and Leonard instead of the maxed 4 with Butler and Harris. That might even allow them to build a better bench.

The Sixers can't offer Leonard more than the Raptors can, or more than any team (with the max available) really. Renouncing Butler and Harris wouldn't change that. Not sure renouncing Harris matters at all since his cap hold is so small (and Butler alone would cover any other free agent, assuming the timing is right).

Might be true about the bench but I don't think they can afford to not lose out on both returning FAs and a third option (be it Leonard or someone else). Which could happen.

The Sixers can offer more per year than anyone in that scenario on a four year deal. Toronto wouldn't be able to match the per year average, all they would be able to do is go a 5th year. Also, keep in mind, the taxes in Canada are much higher.

Again, if Butler or Harris leave with the 76ers getting nothing, that is a failure. Very simple concept.

These players are valuable assets and we gave up good value to get them.

Of course, players can make choices; the point is the 76ers made these moves (hopefully) with purpose and plans to re-sign those players, but also make a strong case to them for staying here. We can offer them the best deal and need to use that to make the case.

I supported the trade for Butler, but was not fan of the Harris trade. It has really limited our optionality and ability to build a deep talented roster. However, now that the 76ers have done it, they need to make the best of the situation.

Sixers are one of the suitors in on Al Horford.

I think that's a very good move and would definitely help with Embiids workload.

Sure, but that was already the scenario for this particular possiblity. For instance one of the articles explained that the Sixers couldn't do a straight Butler sign-and-trade with Houston because then they'd be absorbing too much salary to pursue Horford.

I'm just saying EsPN trying to take a little too much credit for something I'd already read in the Inquirer, and I think the Athletic too.

Same here. Harris is a 4th option for us, so $$$ may not be the top priority. I wanted us to keep Shamet, too.

You mean Simmons was paying somebody to be his shooting coach before? What do you need to do to have a union card pulled?

Hopefully it's not the same guy who was working with Jahlil to "transform" his body so he could play PF during Season 2.

As Derek notes here, there's no sign that the Sixers are actually interested in trading Butler to the Rockets, or that Butler wants to go there. It's just a thing that could happen if all else fails, and a thing the Rockets wish could happen.

I think Harris was always Butler insurance (at the time, Butler was not even looking that great). Harris as your third option is still completely viable, depending on what else you get. It also presumably guarantees Simmons is extended whereas signing both Butler and Harris to max deals at least opens the window to moving on from Simmons (or continuing to have depth problems).

Doesn't sound like much could happen today. Now ESPN has moved the reporting forward, such as it is, reporting that Butler is meeting with the Heat, will meet with the Rockets, and Sixers are open to trade scenarios (though they'd have to be, just from a due diligence standpoint). I would think it's gonna be a slower process, between the players taking meetings and the timing of a cap considerations (which I won't claim to understand).

If the sizers have to complete a sign and trade I'd prefer the heat.

A trade with Richardson, winslow and a bad contract with other pieces may work.

I have no opinion, seems less important which team or what player comes back than what it all means for cap stuff and other FAs. Rockets definitely a three-team trade I gather.

I would imagine if the sixers can bring some young pieces and some salary flexibility that would be the best they can get.
