Now I'm beginning to wonder how the Sixers are going to be able to fill out their roster, unless they already know the are not bringing back Butler and or Harris. The Sixers only have Embiid, Simmons, Bolden and Smith under contract. They have Milton and now Thybulle. They still have picks 54 and 57, but those certainly aren't spots where you will get contributors.

If they bring Butler, Harris and Redick back, I don't think they can have any kind of decent bench, unless they can bring in some cheap vets that want to try to win a title here.

If they had stayed put and not made any trades the could have had Nassir

Sorry...the sixers would not have played a bunch of 2nd rounders. If they did it would mean the season went terribly wrong and....no one keeps that many seconds on the roster.

Well, it going to be an interesting offseason for sure, Not sure how they are going to fill a roster of 12 (15 really). What I got from how they approached last night is that they are not bringing back Butler or Harris or both. Maybe they make a run at Leonard, he's going to meet with them, probably just window dressing. I just don't want them to outsmart themselves and end up with none of the big fish.

You can't only have 9 players on your roster. They have have 4 guys under contract (Embiid, Simmons, Smith and Boldon), 5 if you count Thybulle, 6 if you count Milton. 7 if you count Shayok. If you sign Butler and Harris to max deals, that's 9 and you have very little cap room left to get to 15. Even spending into the luxury tax, keeping Redick they are going to need very inexpensive contracts to fill out the roster. Not re-signing Harris, for instance, might allow them to bring in couple decent players for what they would need to keep Harris.

from the sounds of it the sixers cleared about 5 million in cap space last night.

I like Thybulle and think that he makes perfect sense for the Sixers as a guy with an elite defensive skill (that's not likely to not translate). I don't really get the concept of setting the rest of the draft on fire. If I am to believe the tweets, they gave up the 42nd pick literally to save 333 thousand a year in cap room for 3 years. I'd rather take guys in the 2nd round run them out there in summer league to see if they blow up and cut them if they don't which my understanding doesn't count against the cap at all. None of this is 1/20th as important as how free agency pans out.

I think last night was about finding as much cap space as possible...you will run two "rookies" out there in Smith and Thybulle so finding veterans to finish out the bench will be key.

I agree that free agency will be huge.

Best outcome of the offseason IMHO would be Sixers selling Kawhi on the idea of a run here. Sign Kawhi, bring back Butler, and ……...wow.

Given Kawhi's supposed California preference and possible loyalty to Toronto......probably a 1 percent chance. But worth a try.

I will go to my grave not understanding the NBA cap but my understanding was that while they can max both Jimmy and Tobias since they are their own players, in order to max someone other than Jimmy and Tobias the Sixers would then not be able to max Jimmy or Tobias (meaning they are both likely gone) Does that make sense? So I don't think they can get Kawhi and re-sign either Jimmy or Tobias. Frankly, I don't think they can get Kawhi at all but that's another issue.

Squire, I am as equally confused by the cap rules, so I may be wrong. But my understanding was that there's an order of operations in which a team can add a max player if they have the room, which Sixers would have by renouncing Tobias (only after a deal agreed in principle with Kawhi). THEN....Sixers could re-sign Butler.
