While I'm sure Hayes would take great exception and even says it was his idea, it does feel kind of like a placed piece.
I don't see what there is to hide really though. It's all there in the piece: that they failed to hire more qualified candidates, that Brand didn't really understand contractual stuff (hardly the only GM who needs a specialist there) what the other people do or don't do.
Honestly, I don't even recall people suggesting Alex Rucker was running the team, and it's also not surprising that the inherited Assistant GMs were important. MIght have been nice to clean house but hard to do if you don't have a GM to pick new assistants!
Seems to me the premise is not false: Brand made those deals, right or wrong, and this will be his off-season of failure or success. That much was botched before him is obviously on ownership.
