Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Ty Lue, former Houston Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni, and former Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan are expected to meet with the team in the next 10 days.

Multiple league sources have said the job is D’Antoni’s to lose, saying he’s the candidate the ownership group wants. The Sixers denied that there’s a leading candidate in their coaching search and stressed that general manager Elton Brand will make the coaching hire.

Being a fan of the college hoops game first and foremost, I was pulling for him as well since he is a two-time NCAA champion and one of the rare breed of college coaches who successfully make the jump to the pros--although that breed seems to be less rare in the NBA than it is in the NFL.

D'Antoni has pretty much always adapted his system to fit and showcase the players he has. This idea that he is always chucking threes or running is a hodge podge of ideas from his entire career. If he is the guy, would love to see him bring his brother with him.

It used to be that Phoenix was the city that picked our pockets and enjoyed glory with our former stars (Barkley, Schilling). Now, it's Miami (Butler, Sanchez).

I think if you hire D'antoni you're going to see some trades...keith pompey is reporting he would move harris to power forward.

The Pompey column was certainly interesting. He'd written some of it before, but also said D'Antonio talked to the owners in Round 1, while Lue did not. Lue originally seemed to have his pick of jobs and was also going to get his money and now he might end up with a smaller market team.

Harris is a PF in today's NBA ,though. That didn't seem to revelatory. Imo, if it is MDA, he will implement a system that isn't like anything he's done before, because that's what he's done everywhere. Finding someone to take Horford will be the biggest goal of the off-season

Yeah moving Horford and giving Harris his normal position back should happen no matter what. The issue is more that Horford might be harder to move than Harris, but neither would be easy

If we hire D'Antonio the Chris Paul fantasies will pick up even more steam.

The more I read about Tyrell Terry, the more i hope he's available when the sixers pick at 21.

My thoughts:

1. I'm with you on Terry. FWIW, I don;t follow college hoops much at all so I can only rely on what I read but I agree that Terry seems like a good pick for them. Would also be OK with Green or Bey or Nesmith if any of them reach 21.

2. What I REALLY want is for them to take actual players at 34 and 36. Somebody is going to fall farther than you think. TAKE THAT GUY. I'm very tired of selling 2nd round picks. There are contributors in the 2nd round. Buy the lottery tickets.

this team with its bloated payroll need to find role players in the draft.

They're obviously going to have to send out multiple picks in whatever trade they make to move either Harris or Horford, but I assume they'll be future picks?

i'm not really sure they will have to do that if they take back a contract...especially if it's a team that wants Horford or Harris.

For example...if they trade for a player like Buddy Hield, you are trading salary for salary.

Hield is a limited player like Horford...

I think Horford is just not very desirable. There's a difference between "limited" player and "guy who is paid like an all-star who might be on your bench." And the salaries still won't match exactly.

Obviously all these blogs and speculative stories are meaningless, but most of the mainstream journalists still think you only move either player with a big sweetener (either a first-rounder or Thybulle, Smith if they are lucky).

Doc Rivers out per Woj. Does he become a candidate? Does Lue get the Clips job?

I can see Lue going to the Clippers and D’Antoni getting the job here by default. With these type of openings, a franchise has to move fast and the Sixers have been dragging their feet.
