I would love to see something happen with Horford, but what team in their right mind would want to take on the Horford contract? Or even Tobias Harris, for that matter? They are overpaid and they have many years left. If they were expiring contracts, might be a different story.

I hate to be such a downer, but the alternative would be to deceive ourselves with wishful thinking.
In a league dominated by shooting, Brand took a huge gamble in going for size at the expense of shooting. But Horford looks like a shell of himself, Tobias Harris is not enough of a reliable scorer, to justify huge contract, J Richardson is not nearly Jimmy Butler, the team desperately misses Redick's outside shooting, and the bench is again a liability with Scott and Ennis virtually disappearing.
Tough to be optimistic about this year or the near future given what we have seen so far.

I'm sorry....but you lost me at Tobias Harris. He's the third scoring option on this team and is second and scoring and even his defense has stepped up. Any team trading for Harris would use him as a much bigger piece of the offense than the sixers do.

Horford would also be a perfect fit for a team like the Mavs.

You are looking at two players who are in a less than ideal system for what they bring to the table.

As for optimism...you're going to have to decide which team you believe this is or which version of this team is an illusion...the one that is pretty much dominant at home or the team that struggles on the road.

I think they are closer to the home team but need to get tougher on the road.

Think the moves this year are marginal. Then, off-season will bring a new coach and the movement of Al/Tobias. One more year of Embiid/Simmons and then a decision on that pairing next off-season. When the process began, no one had young stars in the pipeline like us. Now, with teams like Atlanta, Memphis, NOLA, and Boston with better young nucleus pieces, the Sixers seem like the Lob City Clippers in the obvious talent and obvious flaws.

one of the other failures of this franchise is we have so many role players we drafted/signed who are now around the NBA helping other teams...from Grant to Christian Wood.

Isn't that crazy? The Sixers have a complex of writing off young players as one dimensional and spent. From those you named to Richaun Holmes(!). Zhaire Smith fits perfectly into this category and it just feels like they will trade him and he'll turn into what they thought all along

Rumor mill speculating that Smith, Scott, and picks are going to GSW for Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III. All speculation based on Sixers calling up Milton and Burks and GRIII getting calls prior to game in locker room. Burks and GRIII are definitely heading somewhere since they were DNP-CD's tonight.

It would indeed be selling low on Smith.

Woj saying it's for a bunch of picks. What does this do to Shake Milton and Furkan? Decent moves but with no one going out you are not helping yourself benching the only other useful wings on the roster. No one ever cried they were playing too much.

Didn't think of maybe cutting someone like Neto and Burke.

Seems like a good job to just move 2nd-round picks. Question is will they make another trade tomorrow or just have to waive guys.

Woj said the Sixers are working on additional trades so that they don't have to cut anyone. Said that those trades would happen close to the deadline today, if they are completed.

Considering how many 2nd round picks we've sold for cash or used on Euro Stash players that never make our roster, this feels like a heist for the Sixers. Love this deal.

I agree, but now Brett has to figure out how to use the new guys. Burks should get a lot of burn, not sure about GRIII.

I might try starting Burks and bringing Horford off of the bench. Cutting Horford to an average of around 20-25 minutes for the rest of the season would preserve his knees for the playoffs a bit, and the Sixers are far more effective with just Horford or just Embiiid on the floor than they are with both of them together.

I wonder which guys they are considering trading? Scott and Ennis? Or Neto and Burke? Or all four? Maybe Bolden?

The best part is they were are lower 2nd round picks...we held on to the picks which should be the best.

I really like this deal but now we need to see BB figure out the rotation.

I have to think one of Burke/Neto, Bolden and O’Quinn (to allow Pelle to come back up for the rest of the season) are the main candidates.

Hinke’s asset cache is just about finished, though this was an obvious deal to make.

I don't think you need to be Woj to know they are working on trades, just a question of whether they can make them, and for what (still one more shooter? replenish picks? or nothing?)

I would think Scott could still be gone.

BB has a lot to figure out! Things are still obviously less than ideal there. Embiid is either complaining about the coach or Simmons, Horford openly saying there's locker room turmoil. Marcus Hayes, while typically melodramatic, wrote a column talking about how it's a bad look for one of the owners to take three players to the Super Bowl and he's probably not wrong, though in the NBA I don't think the players have to be friends with the owners for the coach to have no authority.

Trey Burke, Kyle O'Quinn and Jonah Bolden are not with the team today in Milwaukee.

It wouldn't be a major loss, but with locker room issues, you kinda hope they hold onto KOQ because he is, by all accounts, a great locker room presence.

Wonder if they can put something together to get Waiters from Memphis. They need some sort of playmaking. Ish Smith would also help
